When we have an idea, we are often attempting to create a solution to help solve a problem. As you think about the problem there are likely many ways to create an effective solution. Here are a few ways to get started:
Lay the Foundation
If you haven’t already, take some time to establish the foundational groundwork that will guide you as you create a solution to the problem you’d like to help solve.
Have a Brainstorm Session
Open your mind and brainstorm several ideas and ways to create a solution to the problem(s) you’ve identified. As you go think about the potential solutions, we encourage you to allow yourself to expand your thinking and consider a wide range of ideas.
Consider These Questions
Describe the idea you have for a solution to the problem you’d like to solve.
Are there other solutions that you think might also solve the root problem(s) you’d like to address? Write down as many solutions that you can think of.
Identify some of the challenges you might face for each solution you brainstormed
What would you need or who would you need to be connected to in order to overcome these challenges? For example, your solution includes an app, but you don’t have the skills to build one.
Create a Solution Statement
A solution statement is a way to describe what you’ll provide that will help to solve the problem.
Look at the list you brainstormed and circle two or three solutions you feel most drawn to.
Write a statement that describes each of the solutions that you circled.
Share your solution statements with someone and see if they understand them. What questions do they ask? What is their initial response? Are there any ways to make it more clear?
